Thousands of Walkers, and Breast Cancer Survivors
Raised Over $200,000 for Breast Cancer Research

More than 2,000 local walkers, runners, and breast cancer survivors laced up their sneakers and took steps toward a cure for breast cancer at King County’s Marymoor Park in Redmond at City of Hope’s Walk for Hope to Cure Breast Cancer on October 10, 2004. Armed with the knowledge that with early detection and better treatment options, breast cancer doesn’t have to be deadly, participants raised more than $200,000 to support groundbreaking breast cancer research, treatment and education programs at City of Hope.

The Mercer Island High School cheerleaders put their talents to good use by participating in the walk. For the second consecutive year, the high school squad's exuberant voices motivated participants to cross the finish line. After the walk, STAR 101.5 radio personality Kent Phillips hosted the decorated bra contest, and breast cancer survivor Jane Rosenstein shared her success story with the crowd.

“City of Hope’s Walk for Hope to Cure Breast Cancer is one of the few research-driven national breast cancer walks in the country and we are excited about its continued growth,” said Bobbie Stern, a member of the City of Hope Board of Regents and a longtime local volunteer. “The overwhelming support we receive from Seattle area residents year after year, allows City of Hope to continue its lifesaving work, which affects the lives of millions of people everywhere.”

With its emphasis on breast cancer research, Walk for Hope continues to attract record levels of participants each year. Now held in more than 30 cities nationwide, this year’s walk is nationally sponsored by Good Housekeeping, The Home Depot, MAMM magazine, Sutter Home Winery, and Wells Fargo. Local sponsors include: Allstate Insurance, Athena Partners, Bartell Drugs, Dreyer’s, Hansen’s, Hewlett-Packard, Hilton HHonors, Johnsonville Brats, King County Journal, Kinko’s, KONG TV 6/16, Luna Bars, Nordstrom, Rio Roses, SRO, STAR 101.5, Talking Rain, The Art Institute of Seattle, Udderly Smooth® Udder Cream and Seattle Woman Magazine.
