Big Sur International Marathon

The Big Sur Marathon is 26.2 miles of the most beautiful coastline in the world. The athletes who participate in the Big Sur International Marathon may draw inspiration from the spectacular views, but it takes major discipline to conquer the hills of Highway One on the way to the finish line.

Named “Best Marathon in North America” by The Ultimate Guide to Marathons, the Big Sur International Marathon continues to sell out earlier and earlier each year and, as a major destination marathon, draws entrants from all over the world. On their way from Big Sur to Carmel’s Rio Road, walkers wind through majestic redwoods and past Pacific Ocean views.

Related marathon-day events include a 21-mile power walk, 5k run, 9-mile walk, 10.6-mile walk, marathon relay, and Just Kids 3k. An expansive sports expo takes place for the two days before the marathon at the Monterey Conference Center. Walkers can carbo-load at two different events throughout the weekend, at “Carbs in Carmel” on Friday at Carmel Plaza, and “Pasta Party” on Saturday at the Monterey Marriott. Each year, the nonprofit sponsor donates over $150,000 to local charities.

The marathon has a strict six-hour time limit, so unless you can finish in six hours or under, you may want to enter the 21-mile power walk, the 10.6 mile walk, or the 9-mile walk. This event will sell out early so make your plans now.

The inaugural 2012 Rock ‘n’ Roll Portland Half Marathon is excited to be making its debut in Portland, OR. This Rose Festival event will be featuring a convenient downtown start and finish and scenic course showcasing the beautiful city of Portland. Being a part of the Portland Rose Festival will only add to a spectacular festival. The Portland Rose Festival was awarded the Grand Pinnacle as the top festival in 2011 at the IFEA/Haas and Wilkerson Pinnacle Awards convention, making Portland’s Rose Festival best in the World! 2012 Dodge Rock ‘n’ Roll Seattle Marathon

The 2012 Dodge Rock ‘n’ Roll Seattle Marathon and Half Marathon, benefiting the American Cancer Society, is growing its roots into the heart of the Emerald City. This year the course start and finish is at the legendary Seattle Center. This signature Seafair event is destined to hit new heights.

Visit the two day Expo with over 60 exhibitors that will offer free samples, showcase the latest in running/walking gear, sports apparel, health and nutritional information, and much more. Pick up some last-minute race essentials before race day. All runners must visit the expo to pick up their race number, swag bag, and T-shirt.

Bring the family or your group of walking buddies, and make it a long weekend. Walk on Saturday attend the Rock ‘n’ Roll party, and then plan on spending Sunday checking out all that the great city of Seattle has to offer.
