Since its inception in 2003, the Tubbs Romp to Stomp out Breast Cancer Snowshoe Series has engaged more than 16,000 people in the sport of snowshoeing and raised nearly one million dollars for Susan G. Komen for the Cure!

Modeled after the highly successful Race for the Cure®, the Tubbs Romp to Stomp out Breast Cancer consists of a 3k or 5k snowshoe walk or a 3k snowshoe race. With ongoing partnerships with the local affiliates of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, the Tubbs Romp to Stomp is committed to helping stomp out breast cancer one snowshoe step at a time.

The event has grown every year and now is the largest snowshoe series in the world and includes the biggest single snowshoe event in North America (Frisco, CO). With gorgeous snowshoe courses, a fun atmosphere, and FREE demo snowshoes from Tubbs (first come first serve) helps to attract participants of all levels. Nearly 25% of participants have never snowshoed before.

As the newest addition to the Tubbs Romp to Stomp Snowshoe Series, the Snoqualmie Romp, in Snoqualmie, WA has incredible potential to recruit lots of participants and raise awareness and funds for the Puget Sound Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Situated in the shadow of Oregon’s tallest mountain, Mt. Hood, the Oregon Romp to Stomp offers incredible mountain views with a peaceful walk in the woods. Walk About magazine is a proud sponsor of this year's Romp to Stomp event in Oregon.

American Diabetes
Association EXPO
February 20, 2010

The EXPO will take place at Oregon Convention Center from 9 am to 4 pm. This free event includes activities for people of all ages — including a Family Fun Zone with exciting activities and information for the whole family. The Expo also provides the community with a unique opportunity get a free health screening, participate in a cooking demonstration, talk to exhibitors, and listen to leading experts about diabetes prevention and management. More than 75 exhibitors are participating in this year’s EXPO.

Nearly 24 million adults and children in the U.S. — including over 662,000 in Oregon and SW Washington — have diabetes, and an additional 57 million have pre-diabetes. If current trends continue, one in three children will face a future with diabetes. People with diabetes can take steps to manage the disease and lower the risk of its deadly complications. Early diagnosis and treatment of diabetes is critical. Unfortunately, many people living with diabetes do not even know it.

The American Diabetes Association is leading the fight against the deadly consequences of diabetes and fighting for those affected by diabetes. The Association funds research to prevent, cure and manage diabetes; delivers services to hundreds of communities; provides objective and credible information; and gives voice to those denied their rights because of diabetes.

25th Annual Big Sur
International Marathon

April 25, 2010

Let the party begin! The 25th presentation of the Big Sur International Marathon (BSIM) is a party not to miss. It will sell out, but that’s nothing new. What is new this year is the Boston 2 Big Sur Challenge two marathons, two coasts, six days apart! Yes, it’s for runners and only 400 at that. But what a challenge. Just to be a part of the party will be worth the trip.

BSIM does offer many events for the competitive and non-competitive walker as well. The 21 miler used to be called the 21-mile power walk but is open for both the runner and walker. The 10.6 miles and the nine mile events are also now open for both and are chip timed. There is also a 3k and 5k event as well as a kid’s run. This is a fun filled weekend for the family so bring the kids. These events will sell out so plan early and come join the party. Visit www.BSIM.org for more information.
