PRC Opens New Store in West Linn
Portland Running Company (PRC) opened a new store in West Linn, OR located at 22000 Willamette Drive, 503-496-0674. Walkers and runners in the West Linn, Clackamas, and Oregon City area now have their very own PRC.
Owners Dave and Paula Harkin have two other locations: In Beaverton, at 11355 SW Scholls Ferry Road and Northeast Portland, at 800 SE Grand. The couple plans to host events from the store, and they're also hoping to host a “Run with Paula” event based out of the store later in the year.
The Harkins are looking forward to meeting the new walkers and runners in the area. They actually live in West Linn, so they're right at home and will give you first-hand descriptions of the routes from the store. Stop by and support Portland's newest locally-owned running store.
New Guide Service Steps Out
and Rolls Through The Gorge
The breathtaking beauty of The Columbia River Gorge just got easier to enjoy. With the announcement that Martin’s Hike and Bike guided tour service is leading wildflower, waterfall and wine tours, everyone from the casual tourist to the hardcore adventure seeker can experience its riches.
 |
“After living, working, and exploring this part of the world for years, I thought it was high time I helped others spend a morning, afternoon or full day discovering the best it has to offer,” said owner and tour operator Martin Hecht.
These eco-friendly family, individual or group tours blend history, ecology, folklore, and biology into a fun, complete package. Transportation, water, snacks, trailhead fees, and more are included so that participants can focus on the flora, fauna, and majestic beauty that has been called one of America's natural wonders. Hikes to such iconic landmarks as Punchbowl Falls along Eagle Creek, Wahcella Falls, and Tom McCall Point provide stunning views of the Columbia River and three mountaintops. These mini adventures on foot range from easy to moderate, as do the bike tours.
“We’re trying to give anyone and everyone a sampling of the best and most diverse spots within a stone's throw of their hotel or lodge,” Martin noted.

The Portland Marathon:
Green and Getting Greener
The Portland Marathon is proud to be green…all at no additional expense to its participants. They work together with sponsors, charities, and an all-volunteer committee to implement and expand upon green practices before, during, and after the marathon, as well as throughout the year while the event is in its planning stages — including committee meetings, celebrations, the Sports Exposition, Event Director's College, on-course, and at the start/finish areas.
Distribution of tree seedlings to finishers began in 1993. After 2008, this virtual forest could include an estimated 100,000 trees, all absorbing CO2 emissions as they grow.
• Reducing the amount of landfill.
• Using cups and bags that are as biodegradable as possible.
• Donation of clothing left behind to charity.
• Offering participants the option to purchase carbon credits to help offset the carbon footprint created by their travel to and from our event.
• Offering organic foods at the finish.
The above is a small sample of the many programs planned for this year’s marathon, visit www.protlandmarathon.org for more information. |
