Your
Next Walking Buddy
We all know that
a motivated walking buddy is the best method for keeping ourselves moving.
But, have you ever met anyone more motivated or who enjoys a good walk
more than a dog? With that in mind and in the spirit of helping our
Humane Society pals, we bring you Your Next Walking Buddy.
In each issue well
profile three different buddies: an energetic buddy for the disciplined
power walker, a strolling buddy for those who like to stop and smell
the flowers (and the grass, and the hydrants, and the
.), and a
shorter legged buddy for the treadmill walker. All of these special
walkers can be adopted along with all of their other buddies at the
Oregon Humane Society (OHS).
Cant adopt
a dog but are interested in helping out? OHS has plenty of volunteer
opportunities for the avid walker. Who can volunteer? If you are over
the age of 15, love animals, and can commit at least 12 hours a month,
theyd love to have you as an OHS volunteer. Volunteer opportunities
for youth under the age of 15 exist through its Education Department.
Call 503-285-7722, ext. 206 or 232, to learn more about special youth
programs as Junior Aids for Shelter Friends Day Camp.
Other volunteer
opportunities include groomers to make the shelter animal look and feel
their best. Pet Pals help a dog to get adopted. Be a pal
to a dog who needs special attention and training. Teaching a dog to
walk on a leash and not to jump up are manners that dramatically increase
their chance of being adopted quickly.
There are many more
volunteer opportunities at OHS. For more information on pet adoption
or volunteering, please call 503-285-7722 or logon to www.oregonhumane.org.
