grown from a race of under 2,000 participants to one encompassing
6 events and well over 10,000 runners and walkers. In addition
to the marathon and marathon relay, BSIM offers a 21-mile walk/run,
a 10.6-mile walk, a 9-mile walk and a 5K run and walk. On the
last Sunday of each April, runners and walkers traverse the stretch
of coastal Highway One between Big Sur and Carmel, CA, enjoying
spectacular views of both the mountains to the east and the ocean
to the west. There are aid stations approximately every two miles
and a diverse collection of musical entertainment. Registration

Go Red for Women with the
American Heart Association
Each year heart disease and stroke claim the lives of nearly half
a million women about a death a minute. Thats more
lives than are claimed by the next six causes of death combined,
including all forms of cancer.
On
February 3, 2006, the American Heart Association will officially
kick off this years Go Red for Women campaign from 11am
to 1pm at Pioneer Place Mall in downtown Portland.
Go
Red For Women is the American Heart Associations national
call to increase awareness of heart disease and to inspire women
to take charge of their heart health, providing the knowledge
and tools to empower women to make positive changes in their lives
that could help reduce their risk of heart disease and stroke.
The
kick-off event will feature free health information about heart
disease and stroke; free health screenings and consultations;
educational demonstrations; and tons of heart-healthy giveaways
from local vendors.
In
addition to the kick-off event, February 3 also is National Wear
Red Day, created by the American Heart Association to bring awareness
to the number of women affected by cardiovascular disease. Show
your support by wearing a red dress, tie, hat or scarf anything
that allows you to go red in your own fashion.
For more information about the Go Red for Women Campaign, presented
by Macys, Pfizer, and PacifiCare, and how you can become
